Southwest Minnesota State slapped 12 base hits, 11 of which were singles, on their way to a 5-3 win over Dordt College (Iowa) in Tucson, Ariz. on Friday. The win improves the Mustang baseball team to 5-9-1 on the season and concluded its eight-game trip to the Grand Canyon State with a 2-6 record.

Kyle Young was responsible for three of SMSU's 12 hits in the game, while teammates Nick Tillo and Jarred Carlson each added a pair of hits and an RBI.

The Mustangs used six pitchers in the game, who allowed just six hits in the game. Ryan Ecalbarger earned the victory in relief, working 1 2/3 scoreless innings and fanning two batters. Alex Alvarez picked up the save behind a two-strikeout, scoreless ninth inning.

SMSU's Brian Ness scored on a ground ball double play to open the scoring in the bottom of the second, before Dordt tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third.

Carlson singled in Tillo in the fourth to take back the lead for SMSU, and Tillo doubled to scored Jason Minnet in the fifth.

Two runs by Dordt in the top of the sixth knotted the game at 3-3, though SMSU responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own.
