Minnesota West awards $18,000 in scholarships

The Granite Falls Campus of Minnesota West Community and Technical College had its annual scholarship and awards brunch March 6 and awarded $18,000 worth of scholarships to students.

The annual event featured speaker Greg Gibson from the Fagen Fighters World War II Museum.

In addition to Gibson's keynote address, the campus also presented numerous awards to students.

Awards were presented to students for their accomplishments in Business Professionals of America, Student Senate, Phi Theta Kappa, Work Study and various scholarships totaling $18,000.

Minnesota West Community and Technical College awards scholarships through the Minnesota West Foundation, made possible by many donors, including faculty and staff, alumni and many partnerships with local business and industry.

Local contributors to the Minnesota West Foundation include the Granite Falls Bank, North Star Companies, the family of Murl E. Anderson, the Amy Narvestad family, Prairie's Edge Casino Resort, The Schwan Food Company, Hartfield Automation and Remanco Company.

Scholarship recipients for spring semester 2013 included:

Alana Anderson, Milroy, The Schwan Food Company Scholarship $500, Granite Falls Bank Scholarship $500, Administrative Support Scholarship $500.

Matthew Carlson, Granite Falls, The Schwan Food Company Scholarship $500, Fluid Power Technology Scholarship $500.

Deanna Devos, Marshall, Murl E. Anderson Scholarship $500.

Amalia Ibarra, Granite Falls, Part-Time Student Scholarship $250.

Krista Johnson, Minneota, The Schwan Food Company Scholarship $500, Amy Narvestad Memorial Scholarship $1,000.

Jessica Laleman, Granite Falls, Granite Falls Bank Scholarship $1,000.

Jesica Rosburg, Clarkfield, Prairie's Edge Casino Resort $1,000, Liberal Arts Club Scholarship $500.

Lucas Stefanick, Garvin, Hartfield Automation Scholarship $1,000.
