GRANITE FALLS - A Granite Falls man was sentenced to four years in prison on Wednesday after pleading guilty to charges of criminal sexual conduct, the Yellow Medicine County Attorney's Office said.

Jonathan David Gardner, 30, of Granite Falls pleaded guilty to charges of felony third degree criminal sexual conduct on Jan. 17, the Yellow Medicine County Attorney's Office said. According to a complaint, Gardner had sexual contact with a victim between 13 and 16 years old, while Gardner was employed as a tobacco cessation worker for the Upper Sioux Community.

Gardner was originally charged with second degree criminal sexual conduct and three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct.

A complaint said Gardner sexually assaulted a victim multiple times between March and May 2012. At the time, Gardner was employed by the Upper Sioux Community as a tobacco cessation worker, the complaint said.

Part of his work involved planning smoking prevention events for youth in the community, the complaint said.

Gardner was sentenced to four years in a St. Cloud correctional facility. As part of his sentence, Gardner is required to give a DNA sample, pay restitution and register as a predatory offender, the Yellow Medicine County Attorney's Office said.
