Cars, ATVs add to all that sportmen’s show has to offer

April 26, 2013

It's an event that celebrates the outdoors, and visitors to the Tracy Area Sportsmen's Show this weekend should really be able to enjoy it. A clear weather forecast is a bonus to the vendors, classes and events on the schedule.

"It's exciting, especially for the car show on Saturday," said Tracy Area Chamber of Commerce director Missie Erbes.

The 11th annual Tracy Sportsmen's Show will be Saturday and Sunday at the Veteran's Memorial Center in downtown Tracy. Erbes said more than 50 vendors have signed up for the show, and popular events including the Sportsmen's Car and Motorcycle Show and the kids' pedal pull are also returning.

"We wanted to keep the events that people just loved," Erbes said.

The show has continued to grow, Erbes said. An ATV safety training class from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is back after joining the show last year, and it's gained popularity.

"This year, it's setting up to be a big safety course," she said. Participants will be able to complete both the classroom and driving track portions of the safety course.

In addition to exhibition booths and activities, there will be several seminars on fishing and hunting topics. This year's program features outdoorsman Jason Mitchell. Mitchell is the host of "Jason Mitchell Outdoors" on Fox Sports North television.

"He's got two seminars on Saturday," Erbes said. "One will be on 'Opening Day Walleye Tactics,' and one seminar is 'Live Bait Secrets.'"

Not all the weekend's events will be focused on outdoor sports, Erbes said. "We wanted to keep people entertained, not only during the show," she said, so there will be plenty of musical entertainment, too. Mylan Ray will be providing music at the car and motorcycle show in downtown Tracy, and on Saturday night, Roxbury Drive will be performing at the Caboose.

The Sportsmen's Show will be from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, and 10-4 on Sunday. There is a $2 gate fee, and children age 12 and under are free. Food is available at the show.
