Panthers pound LQPV in Camden Conference sweep

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton handed Camden Conference newcomer Lac qui Parle Valley a pair of lopsided losses in a softball doubleheader Friday in Tracy. The Panthers won the first game 15-5 and closed the day with a 13-0 victory.

Jenny Welu was the winning pitcher in both of the five-inning games. She struck out six batters on the day and didn't allow a single walk. She held LQPV to a combined 13 hits - nine in the first game and four in the second.

Welu also had a solid day at the plate. In Game 1 she was 2-for-3, as was teammate Jenna Stoneberg. In Game 2 Welu was 2-for-4, while fellow Panther Courtney Paczkowski went 4-for-4 with a double.

The Panthers are now 10-1 on the season. They're in for a busy week next week, which begins Monday with a doubleheader against Minneota/Canby/Lincoln HI in Minneota.

YME, BOLD each win in walk-off fashion in doubleheader

Yellow Medicine East and BOLD each had a walk-off win Friday in a West Central Conference softball doubleheader in Olivia.

In Game 1, YME's Nena McCalla had a walk-off single to score Danie Roden in a seven-run sixth inning as the Sting rallied for a 14-13 victory. The Sting were in position for a sweep, leading 4-0 through five innings in Game 2 before BOLD struck for five runs in the sixth to win 5-4.

The Sting scored 14 runs on eight hits in the opener. Marissa Sneller had one hit and three walks. She also scored three runs. Allie Trudel had a pair of hits and scored twice.

BOLD's Paige Larsen had two doubles and a triple in the game.

Trudel was cruising in the circle in Game 2 before BOLD struck for its five-run sixth inning. She ended the game allowing eight hits with no strikeouts and one walk.

Sneller and Allie Zieske each had one hit and two RBIs to lead YME offensively in the losing effort. The Sting were held to six hits in the game by Warriors pitcher Morgan Flann.

Now 3-8 overall, YME returns to the field Monday for a road game against Redwood Valley.

Blackjacks sneak out pair of wins over Jaguars

The Dawson-Boyd softball team overcame control issues by its pitchers to come away with a pair of tight wins against Renville County West Friday in Renville.

The Blackjacks walked 10 Jaguar batters in the opener but managed to pull out a 14-13 win in six innings thanks to some clutch hitting by Andrea Lee. Lee belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to force an extra inning, then came up with the game-winning RBI base hit in the bottom of the sixth.

Nicole Jurgenson also had a two-run home run for Dawson-Boyd in the game. Sadie Zaiser went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and Amber Borstad was 4-for-5 with two doubles.

Dawson-Boyd pitchers walked nine batters in the second game but the Blackjacks still managed to come away with a 10-8 victory.

Jurgenson was 2-for-3 with a triple, while Borstad was 2-for-3 with a double.

Dawson-Boyd improves to 8-5 with the wins and will play a Camden Conference doubleheader at MACCRAY Monday.

RTR 5, Minneota/LHI 3

The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights moved to 7-0 on the season Friday with a 5-3 win over Minneota/Lincoln HI in a Camden Conference baseball game in Tyler.

The Knights, ranked 20th in the latest Class A poll, gave up a pair of runs in the top of the first inning but came back to score three of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The Vikings struck for another run in the top of the second to tie the game, but RTR responded with another run to retake the lead. The Knights didn't give up another run over the final four innings.

Brandon Kerr earned the win on the mound for the Knights. He worked four innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Alex Schwing tossed the final two innings, striking out five batters and giving up zero hits. He got the save.

RTR's Brent Wiering was 2-for-3 at the plate and had an RBI. Bubba Good was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Andrew Behnke had a home run in the first inning for Minneota/Lincoln HI.

The Vikings (1-6 overall, 1-5 Camden) have another tough test Monday when they play at fifth-ranked (Class A) Lac qui Parle Valley.

RTR will look to remain unbeaten when they take the field in Cottonwood for a game against Lakeview.

Lakeview splits split doubleheader in Raymond

The Lakeview baseball team split a Camden Conference doubleheader against two different teams in Raymond on Friday. First, the Lakers picked up their first win on the season in a 6-4 victory over Dawson-Boyd. In the night cap, the Lakers were blanked by Tyler Moffenbier in a 6-0 loss to MACCRAY.

Jacob Neu picked up the complete-game victory for Lakeview on the hill in Game 1, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks. He also struck out five. Seth Boerboom had the only multiple hit game for the Lakers, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Daniel Baldwin took the loss for Dawson-Boyd, giving up six runs (three earned) on eight hits with five strike outs over six innings. Jordan Staab and Brian Wagner each belted doubles for the Blackjacks.

Boerboom was credited with the loss against MACCRAY allowing six runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings of work.

Dylan Abraham went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for the Wolverines, while Jacob Aviles was 2-for-4 and knocked in a run. Tyler Donner also swatted a double for MACCRAY.

Lakeview moves to 1-5 on the year (1-5 Camden) after the split. The Lakers return to action on Monday for a home game against unbeaten Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.

Blackjack boys, Minneota girls win triangular in Dawson

The Dawson-Boyd boys' golf team won a triangular on its home course Friday, while Minneota was victorious on the girls' side in the non-conference event.

Dawson-Boyd senior Aaron Madson led the Blackjack boys with a 4-over round of 39 to claim medalist honors. His team shot a 164, while Lakeview finished second at 182 and Minneota came in third at 199.

Quinn Fenger paced the Lakers with a 40 and Leo Buysse was the low Vikings with a 41.

Minneota coasted to a win in the girls' triangular. The Vikings shot a 206 to finish 28 strokes ahead of Dawson-Boyd. Lakeview was third with a 242.

Minneota's Allison Bot was the medalist with a 46. Lakeview's Whitney Fischer was two strokes back with a 48, and Dawson-Boyd was led by Taylor Loose, who fired a 56.
