Deutz leads Yankees to 2-1 win over Bullfrogs

Nathan Deutz threw eight strong innings to help the Milroy Yankees take down the Bird Island Bullfrogs 2-1 Friday in an amateur baseball game in Milroy.

Deutz gave up one run on five hits, striking out 10 batters and walking none. Mahlon Zimmerman came on in the ninth and got the save.

Milroy was held to five hits by Bird Island pitcher Luke Kramer, who went the distance. Riley Carpenter went 2-for-3 for the Yankees, while Andy Schmidt was 1-for-3 and had both of Milroy's RBIs.

The Yankees (6-2 overall, 5-1 Corn Belt League) return to action today with a 7 p.m. game against Raymond in Milroy.

Leavenworth shuts out Lamberton, 3-0

A pair of solo home runs launched the Leavenworth Orioles past the Lamberton Long Sox in Tomahawk East League action Friday at Leavenworth.

Andy Cook and Zach Mickelson each went deep off of Long Sox starter Jacob Jenniges during a 3-0 win for the Orioles.

Cook was equally effective on the mound, blanking the Long Sox and scattering four Lamberton hits over nine innings.

Donald Strand and Isaac Jenniges split the four hits in half for Lamberton, which fell to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in the Tomahawk East League.

The Long Sox will look to bounce back from their first league loss on Sunday when they travel to Stark for a 3 p.m. game with the Longhorns.

Irish bats fall silent in loss to Sacred Heart

Clay Ellis fanned 11 Sacred Heart batters over eight scoreless innings on Friday in Sacred Heart, but took a no decision in a 1-0 loss for the Milroy Irish.

Dan Frank relieved Ellis to start the bottom of the ninth, but walked the leadoff man. A sacrifice bunt and Travis Adkens single later and the Saints had a walk-off win.

Matt Koenen picked up the win for Sacred Heart, scattering four hits over nine shutout innings. Koenen struck out eight batters.

Cody Mather had a double for the Irish, who fall to 6-6 on the year.

Milroy is back in action Sunday, as the Irish host a doubleheader against the Adrian A's and the Pipestone A's at Irish Yard.
