She was called by Jesus to her heavenly home Sunday, June 23, 2013.
Geneva was born July 1, 1922, in Russell, to Milett and Clara (Heebner) Bruce and lived her earlier life in Marshall. She married Harold Monson in 1938. They later divorced and she married Glenn D. Adkins in 1948. They lived most of their married life in Brainerd and Sauk Rapids. Geneva worked for 15 years as a bookkeeper in the superintendent's office of the Sauk Rapids School System. In that position she was involved in payroll and facilitated the transition from manual to computerized recordkeeping. She retired in 1983. Earlier years of employment included working at Mills Fleet Farm of Brainerd, for Dr. Hughes of Brainerd, at Varner's Insurance of St. Cloud, at the Sauk Rapids Post Office, and at Fecker's Poultry of Pipestone. Geneva volunteered at the Sauk Rapids Senior Citizens' group, North Junior High School library and the Pregnancy Resource Center of Saint Cloud. She was a member of Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, sewing and knitting. Geneva was a gentle, caring person who kept in touch with her family, enjoyed her beloved cat, family, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately called her 'Grandma-Great' or "GG." She was a child of the depression years with only her mother to care for nine children. The children took turns staying home from school to do the home chores of washing, cooking, cleaning, and gardening while her mother and the older siblings worked outside the home. Geneva always valued education and reading. She would often say, "Oh, I feel so sorry for those who don't know how to read - if you can read, you can learn anything." In her later years, Geneva lived in Rice with her son Rolland and Mary. In recent years she lived at Benedict Homes in Saint Cloud, Legends at Heritage Place in Sartell and Sterling House of Sauk Rapids. Also giving tender care were the personnel of Home Instead and St. Croix Medical Hospice.
Survivors include her children, Sharron (David) Robinson of Victorville, Calif., Linda (Ronald) Feia of Rochester, Rolland (Mary) Adkins of Rice, Steven (Miho) Adkins of Sartell; dear friends and daughters-in-law, Beverly Adkins of Waite Park and Loretta Anderson of Saint Cloud; sister, Corrine Struck of Valencia, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Jackie (Andy) Rogers of Riverside Calif., Jon (Patti) Robinson of Pahrump Nev., Stephanie Wilson of Apple Valley Calif., Kelly (Michael) Ranfranz of Rochester, Teri (Jeffrey) Brezee of Byron, Allison (Heath) Garey of Austin, Christopher Adkins of Lakeville, Robert (Naomi) Adkins of Bloomington, Samantha (Brian) Chan-Kai of Portland Ore. and 14 great grandchildren, Dianna, Andy and Becky Rogers, David Wilhite, Kathryn, Thomas and Joshua Ranfranz, Hilary, Holly and Josie Brezee, Kevin and Cole Garey, Benjamin and Elise Chan-Kai.
