YMC receives chemical health grant

June 26, 2013
By Steve Browne , Marshall Independent

GRANITE?FALLS?- The Yellow Medicine County Board met Tuesday afternoon rather than its regularly scheduled time because of the Board of Equalization meeting.

The first item of business was to confirm Restorative Justice Coordinator Sharon Hendrichs as project director of the Chemical Health Coalition. Hendrichs had been serving as acting director of the coalition following the resignation of former County Administrator Ryan Krosch.

Though the county administrator usually serves as coalition director, the coalition board had asked Hendrichs to stay on as director.

Hendrichs also brought some good news to the commissioners - that the county has received a $40,000 federal grant to fund the coalition's activities for 2013 and 2014.

The commissioners heard a report from Earl Feuchtmann, construction manager for Contegrity Group, which is directing the administrative office renovations in the former Fagen building.

The county acquired the Fagen building last year to house offices and new board chambers.

Feuchtmann reported total cost of the project will amount to an estimated $746,000.

The board voted to approve the hiring of a new property and public service deputy/finance and administration deputy, after voting to approve the hiring committee's recommendation to terminate the present holder of the position during the probationary period.

The board voted to approve a $3,487 contract with Anseeuw Construction in Canby to repair rafters in the judging building on the county fairground damaged by snow.

The board tabled a request from the Southwest Initiative Foundation for $3,130 in funding for 2014, the same amount as 2013.

Though the commissioners all spoke favorably of the request, it was agreed the funds should be allocated during the county's budgeting process.
