Southwest Minnesota State University wrestlers Ethan Hildebrandt and Micah Larson have been named to the 12-member Capital One Academic All-District VII At-Large team. The announcement was made by the College of Sports Information Directors of America.
The district is comprised of schools in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Mid-America Athletic Association and the Great American Conference. The At-Large team is for student-athletes in golf, lacrosse, tennis, wrestling, swimming, ice hockey and gymnastics.
Hildebrandt and Larson, both juniors, are the fourth and fifth SMSU student-athletes to earn first team Academic All-District during the 2012-13 academic year. In the past two years, SMSU has had 10 first team Academic All-District honorees.
Hildebrandt, a St. James native, has compiled a 3.80 GPA as an education major. Wrestling at 141 pounds, he went 11-11 in 2012-13. He has twice been named to the Nation Wrestling Coaches Association Division II All-Academic team and is a two-time Academic All-NSIC honoree.
Larson, an Atwater native, has a 3.74 GPA in ag business and finished 2012-13 with a 17-12 record at 194 pounds. He has been named to the NWCA D-II All-Academic team and is also a two-time Academic All-NSIC honorre.
Nominations and voting for the Academic All-America programs are conducted by members of CoSIDA. To be nominated for all-district honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or an important reserve and have at least a 3.30 GPA at his/her current institution.
