In action at the Montevideo Legion baseball tournament, the Cottonwood Legion team went 1-2 over the weekend.
Cottonwood scored nine runs in the first inning before breezing to a 16-4 win over Kerkhoven on Saturday. Wyatt Schuster went 3-for-4 at the plate for Cottonwood, while Seth Boerboom was 2-for-3. Boerboom also tossed all four innings and earned the win for Cottonwood.
New London-Spicer spoiled a nice outing on the mound for Zach Dosie, winning 2-1 with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh. Jacob Rausch and Boerboom each finished the game 1-for-3 with Boerboom picking up Cottonwood's only RBI.
On Sunday, Cottonwood suffered another walk-off defeat, this time at the hands of their hosts. Montevideo shook off seven runs and 14 hits from Cottonwood, scoring five runs in the final two innings to win 8-7.
Randy Louwagie drilled a triple for Cottonwood, while Colton Varpness added a double to his 2-for-4 game. Cody St. Aubin and Jacob Nuy were also 2-for-4 for Cottonwood, but Bayley Enstad led the way, going 4-for-4.
Cottonwood (5-6 overall) is back in action tonight, when it hosts Sacred Heart for a 7 p.m. game.
