Cottonwood to celebrate 125th anniversary

July 3, 2013
By Deb Gau , Marshall Independent

It's a milestone celebration, and organizers of Cottonwood's quasquicentennial say there's bound to be something for everyone to enjoy this weekend. Events start up on Thursday afternoon with an all-school reunion and continue through Sunday.

Joel Dahl, a member of Cottonwood's 125th anniversary committee, said more than 300 people have pre-registered for the all-school reunion, which will be held at Lakeview School in Cottonwood. Hopefully, lots of people will stay for the weekend festivities, he said. Events will be spread out around town, from pontoon tours of Cottonwood Lake on Friday to kids' activities in Central Park and the grand parade on Main Street on Saturday.

The schedule for this weekend is a mix of new events and old favorites, like the kids' splash dance and fireworks over the lake. Dahl said the city celebrations will wind down on Sunday, but there will still be a chance to have some fun. English Lutheran Church in Cottonwood is also celebrating its 125th anniversary on July 7, so local residents are encouraged to attend.
