The Marshall VFW Blue baseball team bounced back from a pair of losses Friday by picking up wins Saturday and Sunday to go 2-2 at a tournament in Alexandria over the weekend.

Marshall was edged in two tight games Friday, losing to host Alexandria 4-2 and dropping a 12-11 contest to Cold Spring.

Errors proved costly in Marshall's loss to Alexandria. Blue committed three errors that resulted in three unearned runs in the defeat. Aaron Polejewski had a solid outing on the mound for Marshall, giving up six hits and three walks with two strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

Jack Bock and Brent Andries had a triple and a double, respectively, for two of Marshall's three hits.

Marshall got out to a solid start in its next game against Cold Spring, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-2 lead. But Cold Spring responded with six runs in the top of the fourth and later broke a tie game with one run in the top of the seventh for the 12-11 victory.

Blue tagged 12 hits in the loss. Dylan Criquet-Danielson was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Andries had two hits and drove in three runs, while Nate Hoeft went 2-for-4 and had a double with two RBIs. Matt Thompson added two hits and two steals.

Marshall looked to be on its way to a third loss when it continued play Saturday, but had a big late-inning comeback in a 7-6 win over Elk River. Thompson had a key three-RBI double as Marshall scored five runs in the inning to cut Elk River's lead to 6-5. Then, with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Marshall's Scott Buss hit a chopper off the infield turf that went over the third baseman and resulted in two runs scoring to give Blue the victory.

Criquet-Danielson tossed a complete game for Marshall, striking out three batters, walking two and giving up nine hits. He was also a team-best 3-for-4 at the plate.

Blue closed out the weekend with a 7-0 win over Fridley, scoring all of their runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Nate Hoeft got the shutout win on the mound, giving up just three hits with a walk and 12 strikeouts.

Bock went 3-for-4 at the plate, and Criquet-Danielson was 2-for-4.

Marshall is the No. 2 seed in the District 3 VFW tournament and will open the playoffs Thursday at home against the winner between Granite Falls and Tracy.
