Kelly Kruger has been named the new head coach of the Ashford University (Iowa) women's basketball program, Ashford director of athletics Meg Schebler announced Tuesday.

Kruger, who is a native of Little Rock Iowa, coached the Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball team from 1991-2005, posting a 234-164 record and leading the Mustangs to two NCAA Tournament appearances and two NAIA Regional Tournament appearances.

Kruger most recently coached at Adams State University in Alamosa, Colo., where he led the Grizzlies women's basketball team to a 96-101 record from 2006-2013. The Division II Grizzlies had a pair of NCAA tournament appearances during that time, including a Sweet 16 berth during the 2010-11 season. Adams State had won just four games the season prior to Kruger's arrival.

Ashford University is located in Clinton, Iowa. The Saints women's basketball program finished the 2012-13 season 14-17. Ashford competes at the NAIA level.
