Six runs from the sixth inning on, including two in the top of the ninth, sparked the Milroy Yankees to a 6-5 win over the Bird Island Bullfrogs on Friday in the Corn Belt League playoffs.
Riley Carpenter's fielder's choice in the ninth scored Eric Dolan, which proved to be the winning run, as Josh Hadley blanked the Bullfrogs in the bottom of the ninth.
Hadley picked up the win after holding Bird Island scoreless in 2 1/3 innings of relief work. Austin Deutz started for the Yankees, who will host Bird Island in the final game of the of the Corn Belt League playoffs at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday in Milroy.
Offensively, the Yankees slapped 12 hits off of two Bird Island pitchers, including five extra-base hits. Micah Gronli was 2-for-3 with a triple and drove in the tying run after being walked with the bases loaded in the ninth.
Matt Bauer slugged two doubles in a 3-for-5 night, while Andy Schmidt added a double to a 2-for-5 performance. Eric Dolan's lone hit of the game was a double in the ninth.
The Yankees, who guaranteed themselves a spot in the Region 11C playoffs with a 7-2 win over Sacred Heart on Wednesday, are now 17-4 on the summer and can claim the top seed in the region with a win on Sunday.
