A pair of wins on Saturday in the Region 11C playoffs secured a spot in the Minnesota amateur baseball state tournament for the 28th time in the history of the Milroy Yankees.

Milroy opened the day with a 6-0 win over Eden Valley, riding nine shutout innings by pitcher Nathan Deutz to victory. The Yankees later belted 14 hits against Cold Spring while holding on for a 7-5 win.

Deutz struck out four in his complete-game victory, while five Yankees collected doubles in the game.

Brian Dolan was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Dave Schmidt and Riley Carpenter each went 2-for-4 with a double. Matt Bauer and Justin Schlemmer added the other extra-base hits for the Yankees.

Milroy rallied from a 5-0 deficit against Cold Spring, scoring five runs in the eighth inning to move ahead of the Rockies.

Bauer's two-RBI single proved to be the game-winning hit. Carpenter, Schlemmer and Micah Gronli each went 3-for-4, while Schlemmer chipped in with a double.
