MARSHALL - Recently, a place to drop by for weight-loss shakes and tea opened on 3rd Street in Marshall.
Amy DeVos is an Herbalife distributor who has taken her business to the next level and opened a nutrition club - Southwest Nutrition.
"I'm originally from Holdingford, but I went to school here and married a farmer, so I'm here for life," DeVos said.

Amy DeVos serves low-calorie shakes and tea combinations at Southwest Nutrition, her Herbalife nutrition club on 3rd Street in Marshall.
Herbalife is a multi-level marketing company founded in 1980 that sells nutrition, weight management and skin-care products. Most distributors sell part time, and like DeVos, basically to get the discount for themselves on products they buy for personal use.
Some do go on to operating out of a storefront and selling health advice and the aloe-tea-shake combination in various flavors for people who want to lose or gain weight.
Although Herbalife has been involved in some controversy over business practices and disputes about the efficacy of its weight loss products, DeVos is convinced.
"I started this back in March," DeVos said. "I have friends who'd lost weight, so I tried it and lost 45 pounds. Then I met some people that own clubs and fell in love with the idea."
DeVos is willing to put her money where her mouth is, offering new customers their first shake combination free.
"That's the whole point, to get them to try it," DeVos said. "The aloe soothes the stomach. The shake has 200 to 240 calories and 24 grams of protein. It helps you feel fuller longer. We call it the burger, fries and shake for healthy people."
To help customers monitor their progress, DeVos has an Omron Healthcare Body Composition Monitor in the back. The device is a high-tech scale that measures not only weight but body mass index (BMI), percentage of body fat, percentage of muscle, visceral fat (i.e. the "spare tire") and resting metabolic rate.
Customers can register, and DeVos will keep a record of each time the customer steps on the scale.
