PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Lancers place high at Mega Meet

The Canby/Minneota/Lincoln Hi cross country team participated in the 43rd annual Milaca Mega Meet.

The Lancer girls took home a fifth-place team title behind Leah Jessen who finished fourth (15:19). Natalie Dinius also clinched the top-ten with her tenth-place finish(15:42). Kalli Jelen (16:38), Emily Gillingham (16:40) and Ashley Grengs (17:19) rounded out the top five for the girls.

The Lancer boys claimed fourth place with a team score of 113. They were led by senior Wyatt Johansen who placed ninth overall running 17:19. MiKinley Johansen(17:31) and Travis Dinius (17:35) placed 16th and 19th respectively. Josue Leos (17:59) and Anthony Wollum (18:04) rounded out the boys top-five.

The Lancers will compete in the Willmar Invitational next Saturday.

Swimming

Marshall ends up ninth at Swim and Dive Festival

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The Marshall Tigers placed ninth among 12 teams at the North Dakota Swimming and Diving Festival on Saturday at the University of North Dakota's Hyslop Pool.

Kylie Vermeire and Ashley Dunn propelled Marshall.

Vermeire was third in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 freestyle. Dunn placed seventh in the 100 backstroke and finished eighth in the 100 butterfly.

Vermeire and Dunn combined with Elizabeth Roseland and Abby Blanchette to end up seventh in the 400 freestyle relay.

Blanchette turned in an eighth-place effort in the 500 freestyle and had a 13th-place performance in the 100 breaststroke.

Volleyball

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton fifth at Class A Showcase

The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton volleyball team took home fifth place in the Class A Showcase in the Burnsville Tournament.

In pool play, the Panthers defeated Heritage Christian and Littlefork-Big Falls. The lost 25-23, 25-23 to Win-e-Mac who is currently rated fourth in the state.

The Panther's played in the gold division where they fell to Filmore Central but came back to beat New Life Academy and Mayer Luthern. "Overall, I thought our team did a nice job over the weekend," said head coach Katie Gervais, "it was a great team effort."

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton will be back in action Tuesday in a Camden conference match-up against MACCRAY.

Wabasso football controlled the field in its 65-12 victory over Sleepy Eye Saturday.

Neil Eichten lifted the Rabbits by throwing for 144 yards and three touchdowns. Wabasso rushed for 301 yards with Tanner Bock collecting 116 and Mitch Fulton piling up 105.

Jared Welch picked up a safety with a sack in the end zone. Jared Doyle and T.J. Fulton each had a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Sleepy Eye's Matt Berkner rushed for 86 yards on four carries and one touchdown. Juan Montemayor rushed for 28 yards on four carries and made seven tackles.

The Rabbits improved to 4-0 and will travel play to Red Rock Central next Friday. Sleepy Eye will host Martin County West.

Red Rock Central fall short in a 36-16 loss to Minnesota Valley Lutheran.

The Falcons got off to a slow start in the first-half allowing three rushing touchdowns and a safety in the Chargers favor. RRC perked up in the second half with two touchdowns from Jordan Schroepfer but it wasn't enough to catch the Chargers.

Schroepfer finished the night with eight carries for 35 yards and two receptions for 15. Taylor Bunting made 11 passes for 116 yards including one touchdown to Schroefer in the third-quarter.

The Falcons (0-4) will take on Wabasso next Friday in a Southern Minnesota conference battle.
