PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Wabasso earns third place at St. James Area

ST. JAMES - Wabasso improved to 12-3-3 overall after placing third at the St. James Area Tournament on Saturday.

The Rabbits went 2-0-1 during pool play by defeating Madelia 25-15, 25-20 and Redwood Valley 25-23, 26-24. Even though Wabasso tied Worthington at a set apiece, losing 23-25 in Game 1 and winning 25-17 in Game 2, the Rabbits scored more points than the Trojans to earn a tournament victory.

In the semifinal round, Wabasso lost to host St. James Area 25-18, 26-28, 9-15 before taking the third-place match from Worthington 22-25, 25-21, 15-13.

The Rabbits received 62 kills, 48 digs and four aces from Chelsey Guetter. Morgan Frank added 24 kills and eight total blocks, while Callie Rohlik produced 24 kills, 39 digs and four total blocks.

Wabasso travels to play Westbrook-Walnut Grove in a non-conference match today.

Hancock Tourney

HANCOCK - Yellow Medicine East won the consolation championship of the Hancock Tournament on Saturday.

In pool play, the Sting went 1-2 with losses to Lac Qui Parle Valley and Carlton. Yellow Medicine East knocked off host Hancock also in pool play.

In the tournament rounds, the Sting defeated Hancock again before hammering Hendricks for the consolation title.

Chyanne Sand led Yellow Medicine East with 16 kills and five blocks. She was 11 of 14 in serving with one ace. Makayla Dyrdahl went 33 of 33 in serving with one ace and chipped in 11 kills and nine digs and two blocks.

The Sting, which improved to 5-16 overall, hosts Melrose on Tuesday.

TYLER - Lincoln HI had a 1-2 record during the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Tournament on Saturday.

The Rebels lost matches to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and Ellsworth before defeating Edgerton.

Morgan Citterman went 23 of 24 in serving with six aces. She added eight kills, one block, 10 digs and 20 set assists. Maranda Jerzak led Lincoln HI with 10 kills and threw down one block. Alex DeSmet had four aces on 27 of 28 serving with seven set assists.

The Rebels (3-14 overall) plays at Class A No. 3-ranked Minneota on Tuesday.
