PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Southwestern United takes over in Red Rock

A matchup between the Red Rock Conference leaders resulted in a 3-2 victory for Southwestern United, which defeated Murray County Central on Thursday.

Both teams entered the match undefeated at 5-0 in the conference.

Southwestern United started strong with victories in the first two games.The Rebels came back to claim the third and fouth games, but the Wildcats snuck by the Rebels in the fifth to take the win.

MCC's Kristi Bose had 27 digs, 12 kills and went 18-for-18 with two aces. Paris Thomas also had a strong showing for MCC with 18 assists, ten digs, one block and went 16-for-19 serving with one ace.

Murray County Central (9-2 overall, 5-1 RRC) hosts Adrian on Tuesday.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove (10-8, 4-2 RRC) came out on top in a 3-1 showdown against Red Rock Central (9-6, 5-1 RRC).

After splitting the first two games, WWG claimed the third. After a slow start in the fourth game the Chargers came back to win 25-20 to take the match.

WWG's Abby Herding led the Chargers with 36 assists, 18 digs and went 33-for-33 from the serving line with three aces. Dayna Comnick controlled the offense with 24 digs and four aces. Digs leader for WWG was Elizabeth Woelber totaling 27.

The Chargers will take on Ellsworth on Tuesday in a league battle.

Chelsey Guetter was firing from all cylinders with 13 kills, 12 digs, two blocks while going 13-for-13 with aces. Jocelyn Rothmeier and Larissa Rohlik combined for 42 set assists, with 22 and 20, respectively. Morgan Frank knocked down 12 kills and three blocks.

After a week off, Wabasso travels to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton October 14th.

The Minneota volleyball team held off MACCRAY 25-20, 26-24, 25-13 in a Camden Conference battle.

The Vikings' had five players recording double-digit digs with 19 from Taylor Reiss and Molly Hennen with 18.

Reiss also hammered down 21 kills and two blocks. Megan Larson had 35 set assists.

Minneota advanced to 19-1 and are rated second in the state in Class A. The Vikings host Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Tuesday.

Dawson-Boyd picked up a 3-0 victory over Lincoln HI on Thursday night.

The Blackjacks were guided by Kelly Husby who knocked down 12 kills and three blocks. Justine Flattum added 18 assists, five digs and two aces in the win.

Lincoln HI's Morgan Citterman came up big for the Rebels with ten assists, five kills and one ace. Alyssa Otto contributed four aces, kills, digs and assists.

Dawson-Boyd will take on Hancock on Monday, while Lincoln HI travels to Canby on Tuesday.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton clipped Class A No. 8-ranked Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in four sets of Camden Conference volleyball action Thursday in Tracy.

The Knights dropped the first set 21-25, but rallied to win the next three sets, 25-14, 25-21, 25-13. Janel Wichern hammered down 17 kills for RTR, while Justine Possail and Dana Schaefer each had 7. Schaefer was also 19-for-20 with two aces at the serving line, while Possail went 16-for-17 with two aces.

For the Panthers, Jessie Nelson earned 14 kills, while Sammie Gervais and Sydney Lanoue added eight apiece. Kassidy Przymus collected 11 digs, while Anna Peterson added 10 digs. Gervais also chipped in with four ace blocks, while Przymus had two.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday, with TMB (16-7, 7-3 Camden) traveling to Minneota and RTR (14-6, 8-2 Camden) hosting Renville County West.

The Lakeview Lakers dropped a set, but were able to pick up a Camden Conference win against Canby Thursday in Cottonwood.

Lakeview won 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 25-14 to improve to 10-9-2 overall and 4-6 in the Camden. Sadie Stelter went 23-for-24 with an ace at the serving line for the Lakers, while Madi Nelson was 17-for-18 with two aces and Whitney Fischer was 13-for-14 with two aces.

Stelter also contributed 27 set assists, while Brianna Hoffman added 13 kills and three ace blocks. Rachel Kurtenbach recorded 11 kills, while Briatta Buntjer chipped in with 13 digs.

Brook Bauman led the Lancers with nine kills, nine digs and an ace block. Bauman also went 16-for-17 at the serving line. Ricki Kallhoff chipped in with eight kills and two ace blocks, while Abbey Pederson added 14 set assists and was 13-for-13 serving with four aces. Tara Kockelman led the defense with 10 digs.

Both teams hit the court again on Monday, as Lakeview (10-9-2, 4-6 Camden) hosts Springfield and Canby (5-17, 3-7 Camden) hosts Worthington.

The Hendricks Grizzlies came away with a win against E.C.H.O. Charter School Thursday in Hendricks.

The Grizzlies improved to 5-9 on the season with the 25-21, 25-17, 25-12 victory over the Rockets.

Courtni Frank led the Hendricks defense with 18 digs, while Janessa Scotting added 17. Anna Digre and Hailey Teske recorded eight and seven kills respectively, while Greta Johnson earned 16 set assists and went 25-for-26 at the serving line. Teske also had two ace blocks.
