BROOKINGS, S.D. - Despite the cold temperature and soggy conditions, Southwest Minnesota State's Trent Smith logged a time of 26:42 to finish 31st at the South Dakota State Classic on Friday.
In the men's race, Smith's finish led the Mustangs to a ninth-place finish in the 11-team field. SMSU averaged a total time of 27:39. Alejandro Sanchez and O.J. Ojullu were the next Mustangs to finish the race as the teammates crossed the line 59th and 60th, respectively, with a time of 27:26.
SDSU took the title with 27 total points.
In the women's race, Amanda Grengs and Paige Yi crossed the finish line together, finishing 75th and 76th, respectively, with times of 20:19.
As a whole, SMSU averaged a time of 23:08 and finished in 11th place in the 12-team field.
Minnesota scored 15 points to win the team title.
