Saturday's Results

Apple Valley October Classic

APPLE VALLEY - Class A No. 1-ranked Minneota took its lumps during the Apple Valley October Classic on Saturday.

The Vikings (23-3 overall), who went 2-2 during the weekend tournament to finish sixth, dropped more matches in two days (two losses) than they had all season.

But with the level of competition being raised up one class against Hibbing and two classes versus the rest of Minneota's tournament opponents, the Vikings learned some valuable lessons in defeat.

"We were right in all of these matches, but we found some things that we need to fix" Minneota head coach Steph Hennen said. "That's good because that is what these in-season tournaments are used for."

On Friday, Minneota split its pair of matches by defeating Winona (20-25, 25-11, 15-0) and losing to Chanhassen (25-20, 18-25, 8-15). On Saturday, the Vikings split again - this time defeating Hibbing (25-20, 25-13) and losing to Burnsville (26-28, 25-8, 14-16).
