SLAYTON - Services for William "Bill" Vernon Kahler, 68, of Slayton will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements. Burial will be private.

He died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Our House Hospice Home in Slayton.

Bill Kahler was born Dec. 25, 1944, in Fairmont, to Vernon and Revertie Lase Kahler. In 1949, the family moved to Jackson, where Bill attended Jackson High School, graduating in 1962. Following high school, Bill attended Omaha Trade School in Omaha, Neb., graduating in 1964. On Dec. 2, 1967, he and Sue Ann Duke were married at the Congregational Church in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they made their home in Jackson where Bill worked for the Tufvesson Ford Dealership in Jackson. In 1973 they moved to Tyler, where they owned and operated Bill Kahler Ford Dealership until 1993 when it closed. They then moved to a home on Lake Shetek near Slayton. Bill worked for Napa Auto Parts in Slayton, Salmon Auto in Tracy, Anton Chevrolet in Marshall, and Schwan's Call Center in Marshall. He was currently working at Kmart in Marshall. He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Tyler. He also was a past member of the Tyler Lions Club and the Tyler Chamber of Commerce. In his younger days, Bill enjoyed racing at the Jackson Speedway. Bill enjoyed Salmon fishing, golfing, bowling and watching the Minnesota Vikings and Sprint Car Races.

Survivors include his wife, Sue of Slayton, two children and their spouses, Jeffrey and Wendy Kahler of Wahpeton, N.D. and Kristian and Cory Kanstrup of Mankato, and seven granddaughters.

He is preceded in death by his father, Vernon Kahler; mother, Revertie Wohlers; and stepfather, Chester Wohlers.
