PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Eagles, Lancers earn bids to race at state

ADRIAN?- The Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd girls cross country team placed first in the Class A Section 3 Championships on Thursday at Adrian Country Club.

The Eagles beat out 16 other teams, earning 66 points.

LQPV/DB advanced to the MSHSL Cross Country State Championships held at Saint Olaf College on Nov. 2 in Northfield.

Alaysia Freetly led LQPV with her third-place finish with a time of 15:14. She was followed by Kelly Kvaal who also earned tenth-place honors with her time of 15:45. Sadie Thompson, Grace Hegland, Jordyn Sterud and Sydney Bartunek all placed in the top-20 with 16th, 18th, 19th and 20th, respectively.

Canby/Minneota/Lincoln HI finished third overall behind a State-qualifying run by Leah Jessen who placed sixth with a time of 15:32.

Other area teams who participated included Tracy/Milroy/Balaton, Hendricks and Lakeview.

BOYS

The Canby/Minneota/Lincoln HI boys cross country team claimed the Class A Section 3 championship edging out Redwood Valley by two points.

The Lancers compiled a total of 69 team points with two top-ten finishes by Wyatt and McKinley Johansen. Wyatt ran a personal best 16:57 in his second-place finish. He will return to the state meet after placing 124 in 2012. Younger brother McKinley, placed ninth with a time of 17:39.

Anthony Wollum ran a 17:58 to earn 17th place. Josue Leos and Travis Dinius finished 20th and 21st, respectively.

Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd took fourth-place in the team standings with 129 points. John Wagner will advance to State for the Eagles finishing 11th with a time of 17:46.

Jacob Carroll of Yellow Medicine East and Matt Lavoy of Tracy/Milroy/Balaton will also compete in the State meet after finishing fifth and seventh in the section.
