NCAA WOMEN'S SOCCER: SMSU loses in finale

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Payton Pry scored in the 83rd minute to break a 0-0 scoreless tie to lift Augustana to a 1-0 victory over No. 19 Southwest Minnesota State on a windy Sunday afternoon in Sioux Falls.

The Mustangs were limited to just eight shots and two corner kicks.

Brienna Dehkes made four saves but was unable to record her fourth straight shutout.

SMSU finishes the season 14-2-2 overall, 11-2-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference - both setting new Mustang single-season records for wins. SMSU qualifies for the 2013 NSIC/US Bank Women's Soccer Tournament for the first time since 2007.

Miranda Cadena finishes the season with six match-winning goals which ranks her first all-time in Mustang single-season history. Her season also ranks her second in shots-per-match average (3.88), third in shots attempted (66), fourth in points per game (1.65), fourth in shot-on-goal average (2.24), fifth in shots-on-goal (38), tied for fifth in points (28 points, 11 goals, six assists), sixth in goals-per-game (0.65), seventh in assists-per-game (0.35) and tied for eight in assists (six).

Kendahl Fisher established a new SMSU single-season record for assists (11) and assists-per-game average (0.65).

Goalkeeper Brienna Dehkes set new Mustang single-season records in save percentage (.892), goals against average (0.54), wins (13), and shutouts (nine).

Danica Requejo played every single minute of SMSU's 18 regular season matches, finishing with 1,590 minutes played, ranking her sixth all-time.

SMSU is No. 5 seed

BURNSVILLE - For the first time since 2007, the Southwest Minnesota State soccer team qualified for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Soccer Tournament. The Mustangs earned the fifth seed in the 2013 NSIC/US Bank Tournament.

Minnesota State won the regular season title and earned the No. 1 seed. On the final day of play, Winona State, Upper Iowa and Minnesota-Duluth moved ahead of SMSU in the standings to claim the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. The higher seed of each quarterfinal match will play host to the lower seed.

SMSU will travel to Fayette, Iowa, on Wednesday to take on Upper Iowa at 1 p.m. The Mustangs defeated Peacocks 1-0 on Oct. 12 at The Schwan Regional Event Center.

The semifinals of the tournament will take place Friday at the highest remaining seed with the championship match set for 1 p.m. Sunday at the same site as semifinal round.

The winner of the 2013 NSIC/US Bank Women's Soccer Tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Regional Tournament.

The full championship selections will be announced Nov. 11 via a webcast selection show on www.NCAA.com. The regional tournament will begin Nov. 15 and 17 at regional campuses.
