MARSHALL - Southwest Minnesota State University sophomore outside hitter McKell Anderson has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 team. The announcement was made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
District 7 is made up of member schools from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), the Mid-America Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC).
Anderson, a native of Lakeville, has played in 67 sets this season with 141 kills and 156 digs. The psychology major has earned a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA during her two years at SMSU. Anderson, a two-year letterwinner, has 390 kills, a 2.25 kill per set average and 409 digs in 51 career matches played.
Anderson will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America ballot, where first, second and third team All-Academic honorees will be selected next month.
SMSU (18-6, 13-3 NSIC) continues action this weekend with matches versus Minot State and U-Mary.
Mustangs senior wider receiver Britt Wickett and junior tight end Will Kurka have been named to the 25-member Capital One Academic All-District 3 team.
District 3 is made up of member schools from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), the Mid-America Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC).
Wickett was one of two wide receivers selected, while Kurka is the lone tight end.
Wickett and Kurka are the first SMSU football players to earn Academic All-District honors since 2009. Both players will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America ballot, where first, second and third team All-Academic honorees will be selected next month.
Wickett, a 5-foot-10, 182-pound native of Brandon, S.D., has compiled a 3.84 GPA in exercise science and is a three-time Academic All-NSIC honoree. This season, he leads SMSU with 43 receptions for 372 yards and one touchdown. He has caught at least two passes in every game and has caught five or more passes in five of nine games. He tied a career-high with eight receptions for 68 yards and one touchdown in a win at Upper Iowa on Oct. 26. Wickett, a four-year letterwinner, has played in 40 games with 111 receptions for 996 yards and six touchdowns.
Kurka, a 6-foot-3, 249-pound native of Minneota, carries a 3.72 GPA in management/political science and twice has been named Academic All-NSIC. He has caught 14 passes for 194 yards with two touchdowns this season and has helped blocked for an offensive that ranks fifth in Division II in total offense and 16th in scoring offense. A three-year letterwinner, Kurka has 28 career receptions for 321 yards and two touchdowns.
SMSU, 5-4 NSIC, 3-2 NSIC South, continues action this Saturday with a 2 p.m. game versus Concordia-St. Paul at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

To be nominated for all-district honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
