Here's a thought for Nov. 22

Grace Life Church

'Generosity'

Proverbs 11:24-25 "One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." Proverbs 22:9 "The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor."

Generosity seems to be demonstrated the very best during the time just before Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have been blessed to have been a part of a very generous church in a very generous community. I like the old saying "you can never out give God." Even Jesus said "it is more blessed to give than to receive."

I have experienced that blessed feeling when I have been tasked with bearing gifts to a family from an anonymous donor. When Paul and Barnabas are sent to minister to the Gentiles by James, Peter and John they are instructed to continue to remember the poor.

Timothy has a good word to those wealthy in this world. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 (PHILLIPS) 17-19 "Tell those who are rich in this present world not to be contemptuous of others, and not to rest the weight of their confidence on the transitory power of wealth but on the living God, who generously gives us everything for our enjoyment. Tell them to do good, to be rich in kindly actions, to be ready to give to others and to sympathize with those in distress. Their security should be invested in the life to come so that they may be sure of holding a share in the life which is permanent."

Consider this instruction from 2 Corinthians 8:6-9 (NLT) 6 "so we have urged Titus, who encouraged your giving in the first place, to return to you and encourage you to finish this ministry of giving. 7 Since you excel in so many ways - in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us - I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving. 8 I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how genuine your love is by comparing it with the eagerness of the other churches. 9 You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich."

For more than 20 years, a group of loving giving generous people have worked together to serve a Thanksgiving meal for the community. What a great demonstration of generosity and loving serving. What a great opportunity to create a place of fellowship to come together as the body of Christ to give God thanks for our blessings, to enjoy and love God and one another by doing what He knows will bless us more than those receiving a blessing.

Come and join together at the Marshall Armory on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and enjoy a full meal together with family and friends. Come to give thanks to God and express your love as we serve together in this generous community of believers.

I pray we all continue to find ways to reach out to give generously through our churches to our communities. I pray we can give freely and generously with great joy during this season of thanksgiving and celebration of the greatest gift ever given to humankind. This greatest gift was the birth of Jesus Christ. God came down from heaven to dwell among us as a man yet fully God. This gift of Jesus, that became our substitutionary sacrificial Lamb to die on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins and make a way of eternal life through our acceptance of the gift of the sacrificed Son Jesus Christ.

Our goal in this time on earth is to increasingly be filled with the Holy Spirit and to become more and more like Jesus in every way. We are the most like him when we are giving our all just as he laid down his life for us all.

Happy Thanksgiving as you enjoy the generosity of Jesus.
