Buchanan honored with Physician Excellence Award

Affiliated Community Medical Centers announces that ACMC-Willmar obstetrics and gynecology physician, Dr. Glenn Buchanan, has been awarded the 2013 Physician Excellence Award. He received a crystal statue and a donation to the charity of his choice, the YMCA. This award is given annually to honor an outstanding ACMC physician for his or her leadership, innovation, clinical knowledge and dedication to patients, community, profession and colleagues.

"Dr. Buchanan came to Willmar in 1978 and began his ob/gyn practice," said ACMC Medical Director, Dr. Richard Wehseler. "He has served his patients and colleagues here with distinction ever since that time and has held most leadership positions in our medical community."

Buchanan has served patients in the local community for 35 years. He has delivered thousands of newborn babies and brought reproductive endocrinology as a field of specialty to this region of the state and country. His work and service in the field of endocrinology has improved the lives of many hundreds of families in west central Minnesota. Many young families have Dr. Buchanan to thank for their ability to grow and thrive.

Along with his busy patient schedule, Buchanan has held many leadership positions. He was chief of staff at Rice Memorial Hospital in the early 1980s, has served two full terms on ACMC's Board of Trustees and has served numerous times as the chief of obstetrics at Rice Memorial Hospital. He also guided the development of a physician peer review system at Rice Memorial Hospital. He has held a teaching clinical faculty position at the University of Minnesota Medical School and most recently was named by the governor of Minnesota to serve on the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.
