JACKSON - The Marshall girls basketball team celebrated a milestone in Jackson on Tuesday night when Kenzie Beekman scored her 1,000th point with a little over 10 minutes to go in second half of a 69-33 Southwest Conference win.

"We really felt it was important for us to get off to a good start this week," said Marshall head coach Dan Westby.

Beekman led the Tigers (5-0, 3-0 conf.) with 19 points.

"She did what she typically does," Westby said. "We ran some things for her in the second half to try and get her some looks, and to her credit she knocked them down.

"She could have scored another 250-300 points at this point had she not passed up on so many shots. There's a lot of times where she will pass up an open look to get the ball to a teammate."

Sarah Buysse and Hannah Bennett each added 12, but had more than just a scoring impact with Bennett recording a double-double with 10 assists.

"Sarah Buysse really did a nice job of going hard to the basket. She puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the defense because of her speed," said Westby. "Hannah Bennett had another outstanding all-around game. She did a great job of distributing the ball and finding kids cutting to the basket.

Marah Mulso was the fourth Marshall girl in double figures, scoring 11 points in the win.

"Marah did a great job inside posting up," Westby said. "She did her scoring in limited minutes."

The Tigers will travel to Luverne on Friday for another Southwest Conference match-up before playing host to section rival Mankato East on Saturday.

"We want to do more of the same," said Westby. "We've had some success there, but we need to go down and do what we do, hopefully get out of there with another conference win."
