BOYS HOCKEY: Bulldogs shut out Tigers 5-0

LE SUEUR - Marshall dominated a scoreless first period, but surrendered a 5-0 non-conference decision to St. Peter/Le Sueur-Henderson/Tri City United on Friday.

The Tigers pressured Bulldogs goaltender Zeke Haugen with 11 shots during the first 17 minutes, but could not get one past him. SP/L-H/TCU took five first-period shots.

The Bulldogs controlled the tempo during the final 34 minutes by outshooting Marshall 23-7.

SP/L-H/TCU grabbed a 3-0 lead on second-period goals from Mick McGuire, Nathanial Wenner and Sam Wenner. The final tally of the second period was a power-play goal that trickled into the net with a second remaining.

The Wenners each scored for the second time during the third period. Sam struck with 14:14 left and Nathanial added an insurance goal with 9:16 remaining.

Tigers goaltender Mason Campion stopped 23 of 28 SP/L-H/TCU shots. Haugen turned Russell-Tyler-Ruthton all 18 Marshall shots.

MHS did not score on its only power-play chance, which came at the 7:44 mark of the second period and the Tigers trailing 1-0. SP/L-H/TCU went 1 of 3 on its power play.

Marshall faces Winona in the quarterfinals of The Schwan Cup Open Division Tournament on Thursday at the Super Rink in Blaine.
