MARSHALL - Coming off a rugged schedule at the Schwan Cup tournament in Blaine, the Marshall girls hockey team jumped right back into the mix, defeating Morris/Benson Area 4-0 in their fourth game in four days.

"We were a little concerned after three hard games at the Schwan Cup," said Marshall head coach Kevin Schroeder. "I thought we were a little tired at the start, which we had anticipated.

"But on the other hand, we got to get everyone involved in the game. We did a good job moving the puck."

Though the Tigers appeared to start slow, two first-period goals gave them the early lead.

Megan Vogl put Marshall on the board at 4:37 with an assist from Sonia Reynolds. Less than four minutes later, Teegan Wyffels added to the lead, assisted by Lizzie Archbold.

"We had some crash and rebound goals," Schroeder said. "That's one thing we were hoping to take away from the Schwan Cup, raising the level of how aggressive we play. I think our girls responded."

The Tigers added to their lead in the second period when Vogl found the back of the next for the second time, this time with an assist from Miranda Fischer.

"Megan Vogl had a really nice game tonight," Schroeder said. "She worked hard and she was controlling a lot of things. That line was really controlling the puck."

Early in the third period Hanna Peterson scored Marshall's final goal at 0:57, getting assists from Allie Bladholm and Archbold.

"There was some good hustle," said Schroeder. "Allie Bladholm, I thought she did pretty well."

The Tigers turn right back around and play host to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek on Saturday.

"I think we're ahead from a confidence standpoint," Schroeder. "You know you can skate with teams. They proved it to themselves that when they make their minds up, they can skate with a lot of those teams."
