BOYS BASKETBALL: MHS shakes off rust, drills Luverne 62-34

LUVERNE - The Marshall boys basketball team was a little rusty coming out against Luverne on Tuesday night due to the weather, but the Tigers stayed perfect in the Southwest Conference with a convincing 62-34 road win.

"We had a bit of a slow start tonight," said Marshall head coach Travis Carroll. "We haven't had many practices since or last game because of the weather."

Riley Sharbono led all scorers with a 17-point performance. He also had seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win.

C.D. Douglas was right behind him with 16 points to go with his five assists and six steals. Bryce Johnson and Connor Winkelman each added six points in the win, which saw the Tigers move to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the conference.

"We were able to get some steals and get transition baskets tonight," Carroll said. "Plus, Luverne played a zone, which led to Riley and C.D. getting some good looks."

Marshall had a slight rebound margin over the Cardinals, 30-25, but it was the 15 offensive boards that were a major difference.

"Sometimes that first shot isn't such a good one," said Carroll. "But if you can get the offensive board, that second shot is usually going to be a lot higher percentage shot."

The Tigers will be in action again on Friday when they travel to Pipestone to face Pipestone Areain another Southwest Conference match-up.

"Pipestone has been playing well in the conference," Carroll said. "I think they only have one loss, so we know it's not going to be easy going there."
