Marshall GreenStep acknowledges new businesses for their conservation efforts

The Marshall GreenStep Committee announces that Affiliated Community Medical Center, Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall Public Schools and Marshall City Hall have all been recognized as Marshall GreenStep Businesses during the months of November and December 2013. These businesses are being acknowledged for their efforts in solid waste prevention, conservation of resources, recycling, and energy efficiency.

Motivation By Design merges with Awards Plus

Motivation By Design, LLC has agreed to merge with Awards Plus as of Jan. 1. Motivation By Design, located in Marshall, is a distributor of team apparel and sporting goods, along with nutrition and educational products throughout eight states in the Midwest. With this merger Awards Plus welcomes new brands such as, Shock Doctor/Cutter, CRONS, KOBE Sportswear, K1 Hockey, Alleson Athletic, Majestic Athletic, Rox Volleyball, Brett Brothers Baseball, Pacific Headwear, Tyja Sports, Warrior Hockey, and Miken Sports.

"We feel Motivation By Design brings to the table product offerings superior to anything currently in the market." said Brian Kor. By acquiring Motivation By Design, Awards Plus will expand its business into the athletic and sports demographic and continue to distribute these new brands and products throughout southwest Minnesota and the surrounding regions. Jennifer Clarin earns wound care certification credential

Jennifer Clarin, clinical director for Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care, has successfully passed the examination to become wound care certified. The Wound Care Certification credential is a national accredited certification, which is highly regarded and held by the most professional wound care practitioners in the United States, according to a news release from Prairie Home Hospice. The credential is a multidisciplinary would care certification available to licensed wound care professionals from across the healthcare continuum. This certification is the professional recognition that Clarin possesses the qualifications to deliver the highest standard in wound care to Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care patients.

As a certified wound care specialist, Clarin will provide specialized care for patients recovering from surgery at home or dealing with other wound issues.

"We saw a real need in the community for this type of specialized care for Home Care patients," said Pat Mellenthin, executive eirector for Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care. "Jennifer's qualifications and experience will allow us to meet this need and assure patients that the care they receive is provided by a highly qualified team of professionals. We have always believed that quality care begins with a well-qualified staff," said Mellenthin. "Jennifer's recent certification as a wound care specialist reflects Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care's commitment to ensuring that our patients receive the best possible care from a well-trained and highly-qualified team of professionals."

Clarin has served as the clinical director for Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care since May 2011. She is a registered nurse with a bachelor of science degree in nursing, and is also credentialed as a public health nurse and certified end of life practitioner. As clinical irector, Clarin oversees clinical care services for Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care's Hospice and Home Care programs.

Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care becomes licensed home care provider

The Minnesota Department of Health has issued a Home Care license to Prairie Home Community Care. The newly issued license will allow Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care to provide Home Care services to all patients who need care in their home.

"Until now, we were only licensed to provide Hospice Care," said Pat Mellenthin, executive director at Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care. "Now, we can provide home care to all patients who may need care and/or assistance in their home. While we will continue to provide Hospice Care to those facing an end-of-life illness, we are no longer limited to providing care only for hospice patients."

Avera Medical Group purchases Johnson Eye Clinic

In a joint venture between Avera McKennan and Avera Marshall to expand eye care services and access to specialists, Johnson Eye Clinic of Worthington has been purchased by Avera Medical Group. Optometrists Dr. Roger Johnson and Dr. Wally Johnson will continue to practice at the newly-named Avera Medical Group Optometry Worthington.

Both Avera McKennan and Avera Marshall have expanded eye care services in recent years, with acquisitions and expansions in several Minnesota and South Dakota communities. Access to ophthalmologists who provide specialized care allows optometrists to provide local care and offer a referral when needed.

The location, phone numbers and staff at Avera Medical Group Optometry Worthington will remain the same. "I am confident our new relationship with Avera will allow me to focus on the needs of my patients," said Dr. Roger Johnson. His partner and brother, Dr. Wally Johnson, echoed his statement. "Patients will only notice the name change," he said. "We are grateful to be part of this community and to continue offering eye care to patients of all ages."

Other Avera Medical Group Optometry locations include Marshall, Windom, Redwood Falls, Springfield and Tracy.
