MINNEOTA - The Minneota/Lincoln HI wrestling team hosted Pipestone Area and Quad County in a last-chance triangular before heading into the postseason. The fifth-ranked Vikings swept the meet, defeating Pipestone 46-16 and Quad County 60-9.
First on the mat was fight to the finish between Pipestone and Quad County. With the match score knotted at 30-30 going into the final match of the night, Quad County's Ethan Beckler earned a 3-1 decision at heavyweight to take the match.
The Vikings were set to take on Pipestone first in a Section 3A face-off. Leading off for Minneota at 106 was Brock Buysse, grabbing a take down in the opening seconds of the match to take a 2-0 advantage over David Berger. Buysse used his early momentum to drive the score up 13-1, taking the major decision and a 4-0 lead for the Vikings. At 113, Eric Hauswedell battled it out with Michael Suda but fell in a 14-4 major decision, leveling the match score 4-4.

Kyle Hennen stepped onto the mat next for the Vikings, taking on the Arrow's Garrett Ploeger. Hennen was taken down by Ploeger in the first period but was able to escape, bringing the score to 2-1 at the end of the period. Hennen found his rhythm in the second period, earning a quick escape, two-point take down and securing the win with a pin in three minutes, 45 seconds. Landyn VanOverbeke made quick work of Bill Olson at 126 pounds, picking-up a 44-second pin and giving Minneota a 16-4 lead.
At 132 pounds, Leo Buysse grappled Pipestone's Jacoby Hunt. Buysse earned an early takedown in the first but allowed Hunt the escape. As the match winded down, Buysse brought Hunt to the mat several more times, holding onto an 8-2 decision. Bryce Bruner dominated at 138, picking up a takedown and eight near-fall points to close out Jacob Haubrich 10-0.
Alec Engler took the mat at 145 against Walker Kor. Engler grabbed an early 5-0 lead in the first and never looked back, shutting down Kor with an 18-5 major decision.
The Vikings' streak was broken by Pipestone's Brady Bos with a 4-1 decision over Nicholas Esping, at which point Minneota led the match 27-7.
Cole Hennen shattered the Arrows' momentum, hammering Allan Hachmann 9-1 at 160 pounds. Grant Abraham battled Will Smith at 170, knotting the match at 2-2 in the beginning of the third but was defeated 7-2. Nathan Bueltel avenged his teammates loss, making quick work of Jacob Gelderman at 182 with a 1:11 pin in the first-period.
At 195, Everett VanHecke grabbed the lead with a first-period takedown over Cole Staples. VanHecke was able to hold onto the lead, earning a 5-1 decision. The Arrows battled back at 220 with Blake Wolters pinning Ryan Twedt at 2:42. Trent Esping answered, pinning Derik Evans at 2:15 in the heavyweight match, securing a 46-16 victory in favor of Minneota.
The Vikings continued action against Quad County in what turned out to be a marathon of pins. At 106, Brock Buysse took Duncan Marquart to the mat 53 seconds into the match, earning a pin and a 6-0 match lead. Hauswedell repeated this procedure, pinning Jordan Odegard in 53 seconds at 113. Hennen battled it out at 120, picking-up the first two points of the match but eventually fell to Colten Specht in a 3-2 decision.
VanOverbeke stole the third pin of the match at 126, bringing Ethan Thein to his back at 1:26. At 132, Leo Buysse outmuscled Austin Friese, racking up 18 points and the 18-1 technical fall. Bruner had the quickest fall of the night, pinning Cole Hatch in an impressive 25 seconds.
After a scoreless first period, Alec Engler pinned Kirby Winson at 3:01, lifting the Vikings 35-3. Nicholas Esping closed out a 4-2 decision over Dylan Johnson at 152. Tying Bruner with the fastest pin was Hennen at 160, earning the fall at 25 seconds. At 170, Abraham fell behind 4-3 in the first-period but battled back to claim an overtime takedown victory of 7-5 over Austin Villareal.
Bueltel battled it out with Hayden Johnson at 182, grabbing 9-6 advantage late in the third-period but got trapped in on his back as the clock winded down. Bueltel fought off Johnson's efforts but was eventually pinned at 5:25. At 195, VanHecke outworked Zachary Juarez, claiming the 11-4 decision. The Vikings continued their streak through the end of the match with a pin from Trent Esping at 220 and a 16-5 major decision from Ryan Twedt over Ethan Beckler at 285.
The Vikings dominated Quad County, earning a score of 60-9 and the triangular sweep.
