DB/LQPV/M, Quad County take duals, advance

DAWSON - Two area teams advanced to the semifinals of the Class A Section 3 North Division Tournament after winning quarterfinal duals Tuesday at Dawson-Boyd High School.

Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley/Montevideo United made a statement while shutting out Redwood Valley/Cedar Mountain 72-0.

Quad County also advanced to the semifinals Friday at Granite Falls after defeating Morris Area/Hancock Area/ Chokio-Alberta 41-25.

For the United roster, it didn't matter if the final result was a pin but, instead, how fast they could do it. United secured eight pins in 14 bouts.

The biggest feat of the night went Jordan Bothun, who claimed not only a fall in 56 seconds, but also his 100th career win at the 120-pound weight class.

Other United pins came from Peyton Mortenson at 106, Donny Bothun at 113, Logan Knoshal at 138, Keith Abraham at 152, Wyatt Ireland at 170, Joe Weeding at 182 and David Nelson at 220.

Bailey Eickhoff recorded a 17-2 technical fall at 126 and Mitch Kwilinski won a 11-3 major decision at 145. Earning decisions for United were Mason Kwilinski, with a 7-3 decision at 160; Anthony Quigley, with a 5-4 decision at 195; and Jake Lehmann, with a 7-3 decision at 285.

United didn't allow a single takedown in the first 12 matches of the dual, allowing points only for escapes.

"These guys are an intense, hardworking and a determined group of young men," said United head coach Ross Jurgenson. "We are seeing improvements week-to-week and they are laying it all out there every match."

Quad County also advanced in the Class 2A Section 3 North Division Tournament, defeating Morris Area-Hancock Area-Chokio-Alberta 41-25.

Quad County jumped out to an early lead in the match and never looked back. The Sting received pins from Jordan Odegard, at 113; Kirby Winson, at 152; and Hayden Johnson, at 195. Colten Specht also secured a 16-0 technical fall at 126.

Dylan Johnson recorded an 8-3 decision at 145, while Wyatt Hatch won 7-3 at 160 and Zach Fischer outmuscled Alec Gausman 3-1 at 220.
