DAWSON - The Marshall/Lakeview wrestling team saw its dual season end Tuesday night, despite holding a 34-21 lead going into the final four weight classes.

The Tigers faced the inevitable 45-34 loss to Redwood Valley/Cedar Mountain due to the inability to fill out its lineup, forfeiting from 182 pounds on.

"Overall I thought we wrestled really well," said head coach Justin Bouwman. "We have some young guys that haven't been in this situation, but they all went out there and gave it their best."

Marshall/Lakeview had a solid start to the match, picking up a quick 16-0 lead.

At 106, Dylan Dulas brought Colin Daub to the mat three times, but couldn't quite secure the pin, earning a 12-2 major decision. Toby Semler and Nick Erbes kept the Tigers' momentum going, sealing back-to-back pins at 3:19 and 3:10, respectively.

"Our first three guys are our base, said Bouwman. "They get us going in the right direction."

Marshall/Lakeview improved its lead at 152 with eighth-grader Wyatt Martin conquering an even battle over Lance Zeug. Both wrestlers exchanged the lead throughout the match, but Martin was able to bring Zeug to the mat and earn the victory by pin in 3:22.

"With Wyatt you never know what your going to get," said Bouwman.

Brandon Appel wrestled the last match of the night for the Tigers, sending the Tigers out in style.

Redwood Valley/Cedar Mountain's Joah Garnhardt opened the bout with a takedown, getting Appel to his back as time expired in the first-period. Appel answered in the second period with a takedown of his own, putting Garnhardt on his back with a pin at 2:30.

"Thats a big win for him," said Bouwman. "We have been trying to get him to do that all year and he finally let go and it came up for him."

The Tigers finished the season with a record of 7-19 and will compete in the Class 2A Individual Wrestling Section 3 Tournament next week at Luverne.
