INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD: Mustangs claim eight gold medals at Bemidji State

BEMIDJI - The Southwest Minnesota State women's and men's indoor track and field team had one of its top meets of the season Thursday at the Bemidji State Beaver Twilight.

On the women's side, freshman Amanda Grengs took first place in the mile in 5 minutes, 34.98 seconds, while Alycia Hohenstein earned third place in the 60-meter dash in 8.27 seconds.

Rylee Armstrong earned two first-place finishes on Thursday, capturing the high jump at 16 feet, 9 1/4 inches, while Samantha McNeel finished fourth with a jump of 15-7.05. Armstrong was also first in the triple jump with a mark of 36-5.5.

The Mustang women's 1,600 relay team recorded its best time of the season and finished in first place in 4:16.11.

Dallin Finley had a big day for the SMSU men's team, recording first-place finishes in both the 60 in 7.09 seconds and the 200 in 22.98 seconds.

Alejandro Sanchez also finished in first place in the 800 in 1:56.64, while teammate O.J. Ojullu finished second in 1:56.99.

The Mustangs' 1,600 relay team also had a strong night, capturing first place in 3:26.61.

Both SMSU teams return to action Wednesday and March 1, competing at the NSIC Indoor Championships in Bemidji.
