Della Kramer

Della Broesder Kramer was born Oct. 18, 1919, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, to Mike and Emma (Vos) Broesder. Della attended elementary schools in Lyon County, Iowa, and Rock County, Minn., graduating from the eighth grade at the age of 11. Della spent her earlier years housekeeping and providing home health care.

On Dec. 22, 1936, she and Walter Kramer were united in marriage at the First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore. In January of 1937, Walt and Della moved to their farm in Stanley Township. This farm was to be Della's home for the next 70-plus years. In November of 2008, Della moved to Boulder Estates and in April of 2013, she moved to Avera Morningside Heights Care Center.

She and her family became active members of the Federated Church in 1946. Della was a longstanding member of the Elizabeth Circle. One of her greatest pleasures was preparing a carload of jams, jellies, baked goods and produce from her huge garden for the annual fall bazaar. She and her friend, Stella Curry, were also known as the "coffee ladies," preparing and serving coffee for many after church services and special events.

Della had a lifetime working partnership with Walter in their farming and purebred swine operations. Their extent of travel included the numerous interstate drives delivering and showing their prize livestock. A great pleasure for Della was serving as an adult 4-H leader for the Stanley Busy Beavers for many years and supporting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their various 4-H endeavors.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, playing games with family members, listening to Lawrence Welk and watching the Twins.

Grateful for having shared her life are daughter, Beverley of Balaton; son, Calvin (and Rhonda) of Marshall; grandchildren, Kim (and Mike) Clayton of Alexandria, Corey (and Jennifer) of Balaton, Todd Kramer of Fulda, Dr. Troy Kramer of Knoxville, Tenn., and Tracy Michelli of Baton Rouge, La.; seven great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Fran Kramer Bush; sister-in-law Gwen Kramer; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Walter (2001), son Donald (2001); three sisters Minnie Brommer, Jennie Molaar, Marie Nelson and three brothers Mike, John, Joe: son-in-law Dale Evans and one infant granddaughter.

Blessed be the memory of Della Kramer

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
