PIPESTONE - Services for Alan P. Willey, 59, Pipestone are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hartquist Funeral Home Pipestone Chapel.
He died surrounded by family Feb. 7, 2014, at the Pipestone County Hospice House.
Alan Paul Willey was born Oct. 8, 1954, to Kenneth and Jylan Willey in Pipestone. He attended grade school and high school in Pipestone, graduating in 1973. After graduation he continued his education at the Pipestone Area Vocational School. He was married in 1976 and from that union was blessed with three children. For some years he lived in the Twin Cities with his family. In 1993 he returned to Pipestone. While there, he worked in several health care facilities as a caregiver. In April of 2013, he was diagnosed with cancer. On Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, he was admitted to the Pipestone County Hospice House.
Alan enjoyed writing poetry and was published several times. He also spent time drawing and doing art work. At 15 years of age he became an Eagle Scout in Pipestone, where he obtained the love of the Native American culture. He was a very spiritual man and believed deeply in the Native American culture.
He is lovingly remembered by his three children, Shannon Willey of Belle Plaine, Sarah (and Greg) Nelson of Mankato and Jason (and Diane) Willey of Brooklyn Center; his father, Kenneth Willey of Pipestone; four grandsons, Nicholas, Dylan, Jadison, and Noah; siblings, Gayl (and James) Thode of Pipestone, Mary Willey of Madison, S.D., Ruth (and Rod) Staeffler of Ruthton, John Willey of Windom and Jana Willey of Pipestone; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jylan; two siblings, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
