SLAYTON - Services for Lester "Les" Hochstatter, 82, of Slayton are at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Ann's Church in Slayton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial is at St. Ann's Cemetery in Slayton.

He died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Golden Living Center-Slayton.

Lester Hochstatter

Lester Hochstatter was born June 14, 1931, on a farm in Lyon County to John and Gertrude (Stallman) Hochstatter. He attended St. Joseph's Academy in Marshall. As a young man Les sang in the choir at Holy Redeemer Church in Marshall. Les started farming in Lyon County near Marshall and later moved to a farmed near Tracy in Redwood County for 10 years. In 1969 Les purchased a farm between Currie and Slayton where he farmed until 1987 when he retired. He remained on the farm until 1990 when he moved to Slayton. In 2010 Les became a resident of the Golden Living Center-Slayton. He was a member of St. Ann's Church in Slayton. Les served on the A.S.C. Board and the Farm Credit Advisory Board for many years. Les also served as treasurer for Senior Dinning in Slayton. He enjoyed music, fishing, hunting, trapping and bear hunting in Canada.

Survivors include his three children, Marlene Stevens of San Diego, Calif., Michael (and Sue) Hochstatter of Rush City and Byron (and Jean) Hochstatter of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Lawrence (and Virginia) Hochstatter of Marshall, Arnold (and Eileen) Hochstatter of Harrisburg, S.D., Elaine (and Louie) Vlaminck of Marshall, Lucinda (and Denis) Mitchel of Marshall and Lorraine (and Joe) DeJaeghere of Marshall; and 20 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Arlene Hochstatter and two brothers, John Hochstatter and Orville Hochstatter.
