EDGERTON - T.J. Van Peursem completed Murray County Central's comeback by stealing home in the seventh inning as the Rebels posted an 8-7 Red Rock Conference win against Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian on Tuesday.
The Rebels (4-1 overall, 3-1 RRC) trailed 7-3 through five innings, but used a three-run rally to trim the Flying Dutchmen's lead to 7-6 in the sixth.
After tying the game at 7 in the seventh, Van Peursem advanced to third base with two outs. He took off for the plate on a pitch from Wyatt Butson and crossed home safely.
Van Peursem had three hits, including a home run, and scored three runs in the game. Mitchell Woldt added three hits and scored a run, while Seth Bass hit a two-run double in the sixth inning.
Kyle Schreier pitched the final 4 1/3 innings to earn the victory in relief. He struck out four.
MCC hosts Wabasso at 4:30 p.m. today.
New Ulm Cathedral 14, Wabasso 4 (6 innings)
NEW ULM - New Ulm Cathedral used a 14-4 Tomahawk Conference decision in six innings to turn back Wabasso on Tuesday.
The Rabbits took a 2-0 first-inning lead as Neil Eichten and Josh Altermatt scored runs. A three-run rally by the Greyhounds handed Cathedral a 3-2 lead after one frame.
Wabasso went ahead 4-3 in the second on RBI from Altermatt, who hit a double in the frame, and Dirk Pistulka, who added a single.
But Cathedral shut out the Rabbitts the rest of the way before scoring twice in the third, twice in the fourth, five times in the fifth and once in the sixth.
Altermatt added a fourth-inning single to go 2-for-2. Eichten went 1-for-2 with a first-inning single and William Klann added a third-inning single in Wabasso's five-hit attack.
Pistulka was charged with the pitching loss after allowing eight runs (three earned) on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Beau Taylor (one inning) and Eichten (2/3 inning) worked in relief.
Renville County West 7, Yellow Medicine East 2
SACRED?HEART - Austin Vikander, Chase Richter and Zach Fischer all had hits as Yellow Medicine East dropped a 7-2 non-conference decision to Renville County West on Tuesday.
The Sting (0-4), playing as the home team in the Jaguars' home park, forced a 2-2 tie by scoring twice in the third. RCW went on to score four times in the fourth and once in the sixth to preserve the victory.
Colin Thompson, Brady Holwerda and Griffin Schaub combined to pitch a three-hitter for the Jaguars (2-1).
Vikander tossed 4 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts and six walks. Dylan Johnson gave up an unearned run on three hits over the final 2 1/3 innings. He struck out two.
