Holy Redeemer Church
"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." - Matthew 28:19-20, New American Bible
Christ's words to his disciples set the tone for Christianity. Since his death, the disciples had spent much of their time locked behind closed doors, fearing their own death. The early Christians were afraid of being persecuted for being followers of Jesus. They were afraid to step out and spread the good news. Even after all that they had seen him do, they were still afraid.
Are you afraid? Have you stepped out into the world and shared the good news? Being a Catholic and a Christian is not the most popular thing today. Oftentimes, we may even be ridiculed for our beliefs. So, instead of facing ridicule, we keep our faith behind closed doors.
Christ did not ask us to do him a favor. He commanded us. He commissioned us to spread the news to all nations. It is time to step out of fear and share Christ with the world. Tell them of the great things He has done. Encourage them to be baptized. Teach them the ways of Christianity. Do what Christ commanded you to do. He gave everything for you; now, you must give everything for him.
As we know, discipleship cannot be legislated; it must be modeled, intentionally. As you can see from a number of articles in this session, Holy Redeemer is striving to model and give opportunities to their youth to become disciples of the Lord. You are welcome, come join us, it is the Great Commission to make disciples of all the nations.
"The supreme test is the giving of one's life, to the point of accepting death in order to bear witness to one's faith in Jesus Christ." - Pope John Paul II, Redemptoris Missio
