Tomorrow is the first day of the 2014 Great Minnesota Get-Together - also known as the Minnesota State Fair! The State Fair is a popular, end-of-the-summer event for many people, and it is one of the best-attended state fairs in the United States. There really is something for everyone at the fair, depending on what your preferences are. There are a plethora of exhibits to look at, food galore, fun midway rides and great music. But there is another experience that I've been a part of, both as a participant and as the mom of participants, that bring back my fondest memories of the state fair; that experience would be my involvement in 4-H. The state fair is the culmination of a year's worth of effort on a 4-H project and a highlight for many who win a trip to the state fair. Our local newspapers have been full of photos of events from the county fairs and the winners in the respective project areas who have earned trips to the state fair. It was fun for me as a kid to get a chance to participate in the state fair experience, and it was even more rewarding as a mom to be there to support my kids as they nervously met with the 4-H judge to discuss their 4-H exhibit.
