Lightning hits, possible tornado punctuate storms

August 25, 2014
Associated Press

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Storms rolling across Minnesota included damaging winds, a possible tornado, lightning strikes, localized flooding and hail.

Lightning strikes ignited three fires Sunday night in Duluth. A home was struck about 8:30 p.m. triggering a fire. Less than an hour later, a roof ignited from a strike on a three-story apartment building. A short time later, another home was set on fire by lightning.

The National Weather Service says a possible tornado toppled trees, blew out windows in buildings and cars and ripped the roof off a barn in Benton County. The weather service says it received other reports of funnel clouds in the county elsewhere about the same time. There are no reports of injuries.

The Star Tribune (http://strib.mn/1l8WAss ) says hail measuring more than 2 inches in diameter fell in Morrison County.
