MARSHALL — Melanie Smisek and Addison Gaines announce their engagement. Parents of the couple are Paul and Connie Smisek of Marshall and Cave and Dana Gaines of Waxhaw, N.C., formerly of Marshall. Both are 2012 Marshall High School graduates. Smisek graduated with a bachelor of science in nursing degree from Winona State University in 2016 and Gaines graduated with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte in 2017. She is an RN at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center in Matthews, N.C., and he is an engineer for Corning in its fiber optics division in Midland, N.C. The couple plans an Oct. 13, 2018, wedding in Marshall. The couple will live in Monroe, N.C.
