Faith Briefs for Aug. 2
Program offered to the local community
Community members who have experienced the death of a family member or friend are invited to participate in a GriefShare program held at Holy Redeemer Church.
This nondenominational program features Christ-centered, biblical teaching that focuses on grief topics associated with the death of a loved one. The DVD seminar features nationally respected grief experts and real-life stories of people, followed by a small group discussion about what was seen on the DVD.
Many grieving people find they are only beginning the work of healing when friends or family have returned to their daily life routines. Past participants have related how helpful the information and follow-up discussions were to them. GriefShare, a 13 session program will be held Mondays, 6:30-8 p.m., beginning Aug. 26, in Holy Redeemer Church Gathering area, 503 W. Lyon, Marshall.
For questions, call 532-5711 or Pat 507-829-0240. Information about the program can be found at www.griefshare.org.
Bishop to visit St. James Episcopal Church
Bishop Craig Loya, 10th Bishop of the Episcopal Church in Minnesota, will be holding a Eucharist service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, at St. James Episcopal Church on the corner of 5th and Main in Marshall.
Loya was consecrated in the city of Minneapolis in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, less than two weeks after the murder of George Floyd. Early in his time as bishop, he led a process of priority-setting for the diocese, together identifying four core areas of focus: discipleship — transformative encounters with Jesus; faithful innovation –f ostering a culture of experimentation; justice — building community with the poor and marginalized; and congregational vitality — sharing life together deeply. From these priorities, the diocese is working to cultivate a diverse church ecology by focusing on the basic practices of Christian discipleship, so that all may join in God’s project of healing the whole world with love.
