BEIJING (AP) — A strong earthquake has shaken a high-altitude region of western China and areas of Nepal. France marks 10 years since deadly Charlie Hebdo attack

PARIS (AP) — It’s been a decade since Islamic extremist gunmen stormed the offices of satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in a deadly assault that shook France to its core. The nation paused Tuesday to honor the victims and grapple with the evolving challenges of free expression and terrorism. President Emmanuel Macron and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo are leading solemn tributes at the site of the attack where 12 people including some of France’s most beloved cartoonists were killed on Jan. 7, 2015. The massacre was carried out by two brothers claiming allegiance to al-Qaida. It marked the start of a grim new era for France with a wave of extremist violence pushing the country to reassess its security priorities and commitment to free speech.
