Dimmers resigning as Tracy mayor

Tells council he will be stepping down effective Monday

TRACY — Tracy Mayor Anthony Dimmers said this week that he will be stepping down in order to take a job outside of Minnesota.

Dimmers announced his resignation during Monday night’s meeting of the Tracy City Council, Tracy City Administrator Erik Hansen said. At the meeting, Dimmers said he had accepted a position with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Dover, Delaware, the Tracy Headlight Herald reported.

Dimmers’ resignation will take effect March 16, Hansen said. Because there are more than two years left in Dimmers’ term, the mayor’s position will go up for a special election in November, Hansen said. However, the city council will need to appoint an interim mayor to serve until the election.

Mayor Pro Tem Kou Thao will serve as acting mayor until the Tracy City Council’s next meeting on March 23. At that time, the council will either appoint an interim mayor or select an applicant. The city is required to advertise the position to the public, Hansen said.

Applications to be Tracy mayor are available at Tracy City Hall, and are due by 4:30 p.m. March 20, the Headlight Herald reported.

Starting at $4.38/week.
