Three to five head of calves lost in blaze near Lynd

Photo by Deb Gau A fire Sunday afternoon destroyed a former milking barn and killed calves at a farm near Lynd. Lynd Fire Chief Justin Korman said three to five head of calves were lost, although there were no human injuries. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Korman said Sunday. The fire was reported at a farm located near 250th Street, northeast of Lynd. The Lynd, Marshall, Ghent and Balaton Fire Departments all reported at the scene. The fire was in an old milking barn that was no longer being used for milking, Korman said. The barn was a total loss.
