Paving work on Third Street nearly finished
Big changes in layout taking shape; completion unknown
MARSHALL — Concrete paving work on part of Third Street in Marshall is getting close to finished.
However, the intersection of Third Street and West Lyon Street won’t be finished until later in the ongoing street construction project downtown, Marshall city staff said.
On Wednesday, work crews could be seen pouring concrete on the block of Third Street between Main and Lyon Street.
“Concrete paving work will largely be completed yet this week,” said Marshall Public Works Director Jason Anderson.
There’s still some more work to be done on the block between Third Street and Main Street, Anderson said. That will include completing electrical work and street lights, putting in bollards, and landscaping.
The paving work comes with some big changes to the layout of Third Street between Main Street and Lyon, including wider sidewalks. When the project is finished, the downtown block of Third Street will be one-way only.
Part of North Third Street has been closed since April, in the first phase of a construction project that will affect five blocks of Third Street and Lyon Street. The city will be replacing water and sewer lines as well as rebuilding the streets and making changes to on-street parking.
One part of Third Street won’t be finished until later in the project, Anderson said.
“The intersection of West Lyon and North Third will not be completed until later in the construction season because utility work needs to occur in the intersection,” he said. “It is our intent to continue to work with our contractor to open up portions of North Third Street as we are able.”
Anderson said the city didn’t have a definitive timeline on when Third Street will be completely open again.
