Lyon Co. OKs ARPA funds for city of Taunton
MARSHALL — Lyon County commissioners have approved another request for American Rescue Plan Act funding for Lyon County cities. On Tuesday, the city of Taunton made a request for $25,000 of available funding for projects that would help local emergency responders, and update city buildings.
This week’s request would use the remaining ARPA funds that commissioners had set aside for the city of Taunton, when they divided up a total of $1.9 million among the cities and ambulance services in Lyon County last year.
The county had set aside a total of $125,000 in ARPA funding for the city of Taunton. In April, the city made requests for $100,000 worth of funding. That total would help pay for projects including updates to the city lift station and water meter system. At the time, commissioners said that Taunton could also come back with further requests for the remaining $25,000 available to the city.
On Tuesday, Taunton City Council member Rusty Rhymer brought forward a proposal to use the remaining $25,000. Rhymer said Taunton would use the funds for items including a LUCAS chest compression device for first responders, new doors at the Taunton fire hall and city hall, and new garage doors on a building also used by the Taunton Fire Department.
Commissioners voted to approve the request.
Since 2022, county ARPA funding requests have been approved for a variety of projects, like LUCAS devices for ambulance services, a new county-wide emergency radio system, firefighting equipment, and infrastructure projects in several communities in Lyon County.
